Don't let tales of times gone by disappear forever. Ask a few questions and unlock the door to the past! Recording memories is a good way to start. We need to capture what life was like in earlier times, and how things have progressed and changed. People involved long-term in local businesses and institutions provide a wonderful record of changes. The older members of the family and elderly neighbours all have a story to tell and their recollections are often surprisingly vivid. New settlers also often have interesting stories to tell.

Toyota NZ Ltd. recognised the value of this project to the community and generously provided us with the latest in digital recording and transcribing equipment. Our Marantz recorder gives the very high quality needed for archival recording.

The Coromandel Heritage Trust Oral History Recorders is a sub-committee of The Coromandel Heritage Trust. It is very busy recording stories told to us by people of our region. These recordings will provide a record of earlier life and times for later generations to enjoy, as well as being invaluable to genealogists, researchers and schools.

Completed interviews, recordings and transcripts are available and can be listened to at The Treasury or purchased from The Treasury Shop.

Please contact Margaret Nankivell if you are interested or know someone who will be interested in being interviewed. More interviewers would also be very welcome. Phone: 64 7 868 7106

If you have a story to tell, we will always be delighted to hear from you.
